Fighting big fish with the BIG GAME 90 "H&M LANDING"

Overniters and Multiday trips are the way to go for the big game fish…..

The wait is over and the long range boats are back and ready for the multi day trips in search of Albacore, Yellowfin, Bluefin, Yellowtail and Dorado.  San Diego, Califonia is home to the world’s largest fleet of sportfishing boats, with 6 landings spread throughout the coast and boats such as the Excel, Royal Polaris, Independence, Red Rooster III, First String, Big Game 90, Pacific Dawn, Mustang and many more calling it home, anglers throughout the world are reserving their spots on these boats in hopes to be in a wide open Albacore bite or land their first tuna over 100+ lbs. Chasing after these fish is no joke, the adrenalin that shoots through your body  when you hear those words cried out,” HOOK UP!!” can make you pause in amazement alone and you havent even gotten your line wet.

With the first days of summer behind us, captains of the boats leaving out of the San Diego Harbors are already finding good numbers of Albacore within a day of leaving.  That’s right; overniters are hooking into these Longfin Tuna and are landing them in good numbers.  Fisherman’s Landing had the Relentless with Captain Joel Ralston in the wheel house running an overnite trip  with 17 anglers aboard landed 85 Albacore. H&M Landing sent out the Producer and Captain’s Jim O Brien and Ray Sobieck on an overnite run and pulled in 47 Albacore. As the days go by more landings will start running overniters specifically targeting tuna, so keep an eye on those counts.

Unlike the overniters, one and a half day to three day trips have the time to get further into Mexico waters in search of the big game fish, which in turn produces a higher number of hook ups.  Fisherman’s Landing had 4 one and a half day boats go out at the beginning of the week: Apollo – 65 Albacore, Pacific Queen – 100 Albacore, Pegasus – 75 Albacore and the Tracer - 75 Albacore. Along with these one and a half day boats the Pacific Dawn captained by Pat Cavanaugh went out on their 2 day trip and brought aboard 90 Albacore.  The First String and Captain Bradley who run 2 and 3 day trips will be leaving on their first trip of the season on June 26 for a 2 day run. The Big Game 90 and Captain Mike Jewett run one and a half day to five day trips.

With the numbers that are already showing this early in the season, 2005 could possible be a season to remember. You might just find yourself in the middle of a wideopen bite
